The first chapel was built in the 11th century on the site of the old wooden oratory built in 717 on the banks of the Oust by St Gobrien. In the 16th century, the building was restructured and enlarged. This chapel, built of granite and schist rubble, is shaped like a Latin cross. It has a wealth of furnishings, including two altarpieces, one with a Virgin and Child, the other with statues of saints. On the left side of the choir is the 14th-century tomb of Saint Gobrien, who died in 725. Legend has it that young women who wanted to get married within the year had to walk around the tomb seven times, taking care not to touch the wall or the grave, in order for their wish to come true. Above the narthex, an upper room allowed pilgrims to sleep. Two famous pilgrimage routes intersect at St-Gobrien: the Tro Breizh and the Way of St James. The pardon is celebrated on the first Sunday in July.
