Nestled in the Forest of Brocéliande, the castle stands like a sentinel surrounded by high red schist walls. Renowned as the ‘most haunted’ castle in Brittany, its wide moats echo with legends and wild stories of ghosts that blend perfectly with this romantic and ‘Instagrammable’ location.

Although the Château de Trécesson is mentioned as the residence of the lords of Ploërmel and Campénéac as early as the 8th century, the current castle is thought to date back to the 15th century and to have been built by Jean de Trécesson, chamberlain to Duke John IV of Brittany. With its elegant architecture, it has retained its medieval appearance. Trapezoidal in shape, it is built of reddish schist. Access is via a bridge over the moat. A main building, domestic buildings and a small chapel complete the complex. The castle has been listed as a historic monument since 1922 and the estate since 2012.

This place is private property, open to the public in July/August and for special occasions.
