A fragile and capricious beauty from distant lands, the hydrangea has become the symbolic flower of Brittany, and more specifically of Ploërmel. Along the water's edge, in the shade of century-old trees, these lace-like umbels, wedding dresses and other inflorescences are the haute couture of botany.
Every summer, more than 5,500 hydrangeas embellish the shores of Lac au Duc and the undergrowth, offering a sumptuous palette of blue, pink and white along nearly three kilometres of a circuit that is unique in France. Around thirty varieties of holly also adorn this garden. From June to September (depending on flowering), guided walks for groups allow visitors to discover the history of this plant, its various characteristics and numerous tips on how to care for it (by reservation only). A living museum, constantly being added to, reinvented and redesigned, so that the subjects are in the best possible place, both for their personal comfort and to please the visitor's eye.
The Hydrangea Trail is open all year round free of charge, but the flowering period is from June to September.
