La Pyramide, 56800 Guillac
Located in a green setting, near the RN24, stands the Column of the Thirty. It symbolises the Battle of the Thirty, an epic battle that took place on 26 March 1351. Thirty Breton knights commanded by Jean De Beaumanoir fought against the thirty men of Bamborough. During the bloody encounter, Bramborough and eight of his warriors were killed, as were six men from the Beaumanoir clan. The survivors of the English line surrendered. Beaumanoir and his men were declared the victors.
Today, on the battlefield, at a place called ‘La Pyramide’, stands a huge 13-metre-high granite obelisk. The ‘Column of Thirty’ is made up of thirty granite stones, each representing one of Beaumanoir's thirty Breton knights.
A historic site not to be missed!
